Introducing ROSSMUN2024

Rossall School 30th November, 8:45 - 17:00

New Dawn

We are thrilled to reveal the theme for Rossall's first external MUN!

In light of the current geopolitical climate, this theme is not only timely but deeply relevant. We are witnessing, or perhaps have already entered, a period of profound transformation in the global order. The structures of international power, once relatively stable and predictable, are increasingly at odds with the emerging realities of today's world. The global landscape is shifting beneath our feet, and the institutions designed to manage international peace and security are struggling to keep pace.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the composition of the United Nations Security Council, whose membership and power dynamics no longer reflect the true balance of influence in the modern era. The rise of new powers—most notably China—and the emergence of influential regional actors such as Iran, Turkiye, India and North Korea, challenge the long-standing assumptions upon which the current world order rests. What was once hailed as revolutionary and forward-thinking within the so-called ‘rules-based international order’ now appears antiquated and ill-equipped to address the complexities of today’s international relations. The world is transitioning, not merely in terms of policies and alliances but through a fundamental reconfiguration of power, ideology, and influence.

A New Dawn symbolizes more than a hopeful metaphor. It reflects the pressing need for fresh thinking and innovative approaches to global governance. This theme invites us to critically examine the shifting paradigms of power, the evolving nature of international cooperation, and the potential for renewal in global institutions. As the dawn of a new era approaches, we must ask ourselves: How can we adapt to this changing world, and what role can diplomacy play in shaping a more equitable and just future?

We look forward to exploring these ideas with you at Rossall’s first external MUN conference, where delegates will grapple with the most pressing challenges of our time and help pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive world.
